A Message from the Alumni Office

Alumni Director Lisa Pratt retired on August 22, 2015.

Fall signifies change. Leaves are turning, the air has a chill, and students come back to school. It can bring new beginnings and fresh starts. My new beginning started August 22, when I officially retired from UMD and from my position as alumni director.

I am excited about the future, which includes an eventual move to the Twin Cities, where my three daughters and their families are settled. I look forward to having more time to spend with them and to starting a new life chapter, but ever as a Bulldog!

UMD and our alumni will continue to hold a very special place in my heart and will be well served in the meantime by Christiana Kapsner, assistant alumni director, and Mollie Nelson, communication associate.

I have appreciated getting to know many of you, learning about the exciting paths your educations have taken
you, and the creative, successful, and meaningful ways
in which you are living your lives. I am grateful to UMD, my colleagues, and friends for providing such tremendous support and collaboration.

A friend shared a beautiful poem by John O’Donohue entitled “For a New Beginning.” The following verses particularly resonate with me as I embark on this new adventure. May all who face the uncertainty of change take heart in these uplifting words:

Though your destination is not yet clear You can trust the promise of this opening; Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning That is at one with your life’s desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk; Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

Serving as alumni director has been an honor and a privilege at an institution of which I am extremely proud. I’m certain the wonderful memories and great friendships I have developed will continue long into the future.
